Design

Feature,

May 2014

This is the first feature spread I designed myself. A student-artist created the beautiful staircase, and the whimsical design inspired me to create an Alice in Wonderland theme. The quote married perfectly with the concept of both the piece and the design.

Feature,

Senior Edition 2014

When the mysterious Government and Economics teacher retired, I decided to design the page to reflect the many rumors surrounding his past. The most prominent belief was that Mr. Christiansen worked for the CIA, so I created a Bond-esque design.

Sports Feature,

November 2014

The varsity boys' soccer team accomplished an undefeated season, earning them a prominent spot in our Homecoming edition. While I chose an action shot for the front page, I wanted to recognize each of the players individually in the sports section using a penant-like design for our champions.

Arts & Entertainment, December 2014

In designing the back page, I really wanted to feature our students and the artists on staff who created some beautiful art. I love the spirit incorporated into this layout, from the childlike wonder associated with letters to Santa to the smiling faces of our students.

Front page,

October 2014

For the first edition of my senior year and my first edition as layout editor, I renovated the front page. I opted for clean, sans serif fonts for the headlines and fewer, more prominent visuals. I also updated the masthead and kickers to have a more modern feel.
